Current Situation of Microbial Fertilizer Industry in China

Microorganisms are closely related to agriculture. They can promote agricultural production improve soil fertility, promote crop growth, control diseases, pests and weeds. In recent years, with the continuous development of agriculture and rural economy, fertilizer and scientific fertilization technology need to catch up with the new era of rapid development. China has made continuous efforts in microbial research and the preservation and utilization of microbial resources. At present, there are 33 major microbial preservation centers ir China,with more than 182000 microbial strains preserved and shared, ranking fourth in the world.

The national standard code of agricultural microbial agents is gb20287-2006. Agricultural microbial agents have clear utility process and positive effects, that is, viable agents --- improving soil --- restoring soil fertility --- degrading toxic and harmful substances --- increasing plant nutrient supply --- promoting plant growth --- improving quality  ---  improving agricultural ecological environment.

Microorganism plays an important role in fertilizer efficiency. At present, China's microbial fertilizer industry has formed a standard system with 5 layers and 30 standards. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas of China has approved the registration of 11 kinds of microbial fertilizers. At present, there are 9 kinds of microbial fertilizer related products registered, including microbial agents, bio-organic fertilizers, compound microbial fertilizers, organic materials decomposition agents, rhizobial agents, photosynthetic bacteria agents, agricultural microbial agents, endomycorrhizal agents and bioremediation agents. Among them, microbial agents, bio organic fertilizer and compound microbial fertilizer are dominant, accounting for 93.8% of the total registered products.

There are thousands of microbial fertilizer products registered as suitable for use on fruit trees, among which bacillus subtilis, bacillus licheniformis and other strains have high applicability in fruit trees, which verifies the importance of microbial fertilizer. There are four categories of commonly used strains in agricultural microbial technology, namely, nor toxicological strains, strains requiring acute oral toxicity test, strains requiring pathogenicity test and prohibited strains.

As of December 2020 China has formed more than 2500 microbial fertilizer enterprises with a production capacity of more than 30 million tons, nearly 7000 registered products and an output value of 40 billion Yuan, marking the formation of China's microbial fertilizer industry. Microbial fertilizer has become a new type of fertilizer with the largest yield and the widest application area. With the continuous introduction of environmental protection policies and the further expansion of soil remediation market, more capital will be invested in the field of microbial fertilizer in the future, which will play a positive role in promoting agricultural production and solving environmental problems.
