One of Australia's fertiliser suppliers will build a new fertilizer distribution centre, in a vote of confidence in the long-term future of Western Australia's $16.3 billion agriculture industry and Perth's major industrial area.
Nutrien Ag Solutions has begun work on the new $70 million distribution centre, after a fire destroyed the company's existing bulk fertiliser site in February.
Since the fire, the Fremantle Ports Authority has supported Nutrien Ag Solutions to continue operating at the Kwinana Bulk Jetty precinct to meet the needs of its customers.
Their new, larger distribution centre - to be located just 2 km from the previous facility at the Kwinana Bulk Jetty precinct - will increase the company's bulk granular fertiliser storage capacity by 20%, to 130 000 t.
Combined with a new, streamlined distribution process, the centre will ensure WA's world-leading farmers have guaranteed access to fertilisers when they need them.
The single biggest on-farm investment, fertilisers are supplied by Nutrien Ag Solutions to grain, pasture and horticulture operators.
The new centre at Rockingham will support the continued growth of Perth's key industrial precinct, which is benefiting from a $20 million Cook Government investment to expand the Kwinana Bulk Jetty precinct and enhance its capacity.
A further $2 million will enable Fremantle Ports Authority to plan for a redesign of landside logistics assets and connections, including new sheds, road connections and improved rail sidings.
Bolstering the jetty is key to transforming the surrounding precinct into a Global Advanced Industries Hub, which will create long-term local jobs and diversify the State's economy.
Nutrien Ag Solutions' new facility is expected to be operational in 2026.
