Brazil’s specialty fertilizers market ended 2024 with revenue of R$26.9 billion, up 18.9% from the previous year, according to the annual report released Monday (5) by the Brazilian Association of Plant Nutrition Technology (ABISOLO).
Clorialdo Roberto Levrero, chairman of ABISOLO, told Valor the 2024 result exceeded the organization’s expectations, which had initially projected a 10% increase. For 2025, the outlook remains positive, supported by the solid progress of crop cycles.
“Farmers continue to adopt these inputs at a steady pace. The market demands technologies that can overcome challenges related to weather, costs, and sustainability. There is still plenty of room for growth in the specialty fertilizer segment in Brazil,” he said.
ABISOLO’s data shows that in 2024, revenue from organic fertilizers dropped 44%, while organomineral fertilizers saw a 19.7% decline. In contrast, revenue from specialty mineral fertilizers surged 30.7%, and biofertilizers posted a modest 1.4% increase.
Soy was the leading crop in terms of demand for specialty fertilizers in 2024, accounting for 44.1% of usage, followed by corn (13.2%) and coffee (9.6%).
Looking ahead to 2025, Mr. Levrero expects the sector to maintain the steady growth trajectory seen since 2020, even amid domestic economic uncertainty, high interest rates, and global trade tensions.
“Brazil’s harvests are progressing well. And despite all the uncertainty abroad, we haven’t seen major fluctuations in grain or fertilizer prices as in past years. This gives us confidence that growth in 2025 can continue,” he said. He also noted that if food demand rises due to the tariff war, Brazil may be well positioned to fill any resulting supply gaps.
According to ABISOLO’s definition, “specialty fertilizers are products that include in their formulation some additional feature that distinguishes them from conventional fertilizers, enhancing performance, stability, efficiency, or ease of handling. They may be mineral or organic, solid or liquid, and suitable for various types of applications.”
