Morocco’s phosphate and derivatives exports surged 19.2% in the first nine months of 2025, reaching MAD 74.65 billion (USD 8 billion), according to the country’s foreign trade regulator, the Office des Changes.

The figure is a significant rise from MAD 62.6 billion a year earlier, driven by robust gains across all major product categories. Exports of natural and chemical fertilizers rose 16.3% to MAD 54.7 billion, while phosphoric acid shipments grew 17.9% to MAD 12.25 billion. Raw phosphate exports recorded the sharpest increase, soaring 49% to MAD 7.68 billion.

The performance reflects both favorable market conditions and strategic upgrades within Morocco’s phosphate industry, led by the state-owned OCP Group, one of the world’s largest fertilizer producers.

The company’s ongoing investments in chemical processing, logistics, and renewable energy integration have enabled Morocco to shift from a raw exporter to a high-value producer of fertilizer inputs.

Analysts attribute the export boom to a combination of rising global fertilizer demand, tight supply chains, and price hikes linked to geopolitical disruptions in key agricultural regions.
