Smartchem Technologies Ltd. (STL), a 100% subsidiary of Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corp. Ltd. (DFPCL), a chemicals and fertilizer manufacturer in India, performed the ground-breaking ceremony and foundation stone laying for a new fertilizer complex at Gopalpur Industrial Park in Odisha, India, on 9 December 2021.

The new fertilizer complex will include three complementary Casale technologies: 

1. one 900 MTD nitric acid plant, based on Casale’s proprietary NA2000 process (Dual Pressure) 

2. one 1143 MTD ammonium nitrate solution plant incorporating Casale’s AN2000 Pipe Reactor technology. 

3. one prilling unit capable of producing 1000 MTD of either high density ammonium nitrate (HDAN) or the same amount of low density ammonium nitrate (LDAN), based on the newly acquired technology from ORICA for this product.

The plant will be equipped with advanced NOX/N2O abatement technologies. 

“This testifies to Casale's commitment to the development of technologies that favour not only the plants performances, but also the reduction of emissions,” said Federico Zardi, CEO of Casale. “Our final goal is always to contribute to the reduction of pollution and therefore to the general improvement of the climatic conditions of our planet.”

The project, which will provide employment to 1500 people during project phase and 325 people during the operation phase, is expected to be completed by August 2024. 50% of the engineering work is already completed and the piling work will begin from January 2022.
